Fast Food Competition

As I ate my chili cheese burrito today I began to wonder...

There are a half-dozen competitors to McDonalds- Wendy's, Burger King, Hardees, Jack-in-the-Box, etc- why are there no major threats to Arby's or Taco Bell?

Not only do the burger chains compete but they seem to all come out with the same menu- cheeseburgers, fries, salads, milkshakes, chicken sandwiches, etc. Arby's is the only roast beef place I can think of and they serve wraps, pita sandwiches and chicken salad sandwich-type things. Why doesn't anyone else do this? Wendy's is closest with their new Frescatta sandwiches and even those aren't very close.

Maybe the roast beef market is just not that big. Is Hardy's a competitor? Do they still exist?

I think taco bell is getting competitors in the fast food burrito places like chipolte and baja fresh.

I also tend to think mom and pop joints are more competition for roast beef places. There wewre a ton of sandwich shops in Chicago for these types of food. Some were more ethnic too.

There are sandwich fast food-think subway and quiznos. Steak N Shake, Penn Station each have sandwiches, too.

Yes. Hardee's still exists - aka carl's jr and joined with green burrito.

There are additional competitors to Taco bell - taco del mar, taco time, plus Mexican restaurants are typically fast casual. Also including chipolte, baja fresh, qdoba, green burrito.

Jack in the Box supposedly crack-good tacos (eggrolls, too!).

Want beef? Go to a Jewish deli or bagel shop.

hahaha. perhaps you should do something about it. Become a competitor to Arby's and Taco Bell. Sweet. Ok, so you'll need food scientists and culinarians.....excellent.

Del Taco is the bomb. WAY BETTER THAN TACO BELL. Unfortunately they are based in CA. And if you want a real burger and fries, go to In N Out burger. Its also only West Coast. Whataburger in Texas aint bad either.

Go to Richard's Pizza and get the steak sandwich if you want a go hoagie like deal. Best food in Hamilton, period.

Taco Bell has a competitor, at least in Texas, called Taco Bueno. And they blow the Bell away. They are just a little more pricey, and don't stay open as late, but overall a better place (unless you're a junkie with 2 bucks and the munchies at 3 in the morning).

Ya, I think you are seeing this in a regional light Karen. There are many competitors, just not locally.

Living out west for a bit, I got Carl's Jr, JackintheBox, Whattaburger (sp?)and yes, Del Taco. Holy crap Del Taco was awesome after a night of drinking. And cheaper than Taco Bell too! Those were some crazy nights in California :).

On this subject, what I really miss from out west? BREAKFAST AT TACO BELL!!!! They all served egg burritos, with chorizo and all sorts of yummy goodness! I'd love it if the Taco Bells around here started serving breakfast!!!

I'll let everyone else argue over this one really.. but with roast beef, you can't really do anything with it except put Arby's sauce or cheese on it... burgers you can put bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomatoe, mustard, onion, sauces galore... there's just a lot more variety and a bigger market.
