WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!

Our efforts worked and we spent 4 hours signing our life away on the house last night! We agreed to a close date of September 15, mostly in order to give my dear brother some time to save so he can buy our current house!

Here are some pictures of what you'll get to walk through in September! If you click on them they'll blow up a bit so you can see them more clearly.

We will have a 3 car, side-entry garage instead of this front-facing one but all the windows are the same! We pick out brick and shutter patterns on Saturday! Our house will be flipped (with the garage on the left) because of the lot we picked which is the first on the left once you enter our section of the neighborhood.

This is the upstairs. Only options we took here were the 2 sinks in the "kids' bathroom" and jets in the owners bathtub! Jim claims I won't use them, but I beg to differ!

We upgraded all of the starred items on this diagram including the 3-car garage, morning room, kitchen island, large flat window in the living room, fireplace, and 4' extension to the great room.

This is the basement which we are not finishing. So, what you'll see is all concrete walls, support beams, and plumbing!

So, let the home-building advice start flowing!

Ohhh so now the house is getting pushed up to Sept 15? What happened to Oct 15? Haha j/k. So are you planning on finishing the basement at all? And what does the star upgrade mean?

No advice! Just hope that it's an enjoyable and stressful building period. I'm so excited for you! But not happy that you're moving away from me! I may even be staying in Wildwood another year... atleast then I'll get Greg as a neighbor!!

and greg is a good neighbor - he'll kill spiders, lift heavy objects, diagnose the weird sound your car's making, etc. only thing he won't do is late-night hook-ups. He might take drunk dialing calls though. :)

The stars are upgrades we're getting above and beyond the base model.

Congrats! Let us know if you will need help moving/getting settled in. Trey and I will plan a visit some time soon after the grape is born, but can come back later!

Yay, that's great! Can't wait to see it in person - let us know when / if you need help moving :)

Congratulations. I know you are really excited. Just make sure you go out there at least every other day and "make sure" they are doing what they are supposed to when they start building your dream house. They will pour the basement first. It will be fun watchingt it all come together. TAKE PICTURES during the process. You would be suprised how much "better" the building goes when the boys all see you out there every day taking their pic and their workmanship. Most of them really take pride in what they do, and if they know you are always going to be there at any given time, the "quality" is consistant. If you see something you do not like during the process, "SPEAK UP". It is "YOUR" house. Have a great time building your new home.

My comment didn't show up. Here's the abbreviated version:

Congrats. sounds like Dave was right about waiting and they'll get back to you. you're going to have a busy summer.

(I think that was the gist of the original comment. read so much better the first time)

Very exciting news. Sorry that I didn't post yesterday... kinda crazy!

You should have a ground breaking party when they start building! :-) We can all wear hardhats and you and Jim can dig your shovels in and we'll all clap... like they do for businesses. :-D

That's great news.

Just watch the builders like a hawk. Get to the site each day, take pictures, keep them accountable. Ask them to explain things to you, and if you see ANYTHING you don't like, immediately start asking questions.

I highly recommend you pay extra attention when they start putting up the wood for walls and whatnot. Make sure they are ALL STRAIGHT. I had them remove and replace a ton of 2x4's in the framing because they were bowed.

Invest in a few cans of black spray paint, works wonders for marking places in framing that you want looked at.
