Random Things

Yes, I know that I obviously have too much time on my hands if I think about this stuff but I’ve been driving a lot lately and have been afforded the time.

Two things I’ve been ruminating about:

1) I was dismayed earlier this week when, while using the restroom, my arch-nemesis co-worker came in and was going to use the same stall I was in. Not intentionally walk in on me or anything, but her natural instinct was to prefer this stall. I don’t like that someone I don’t like has things in common with me. Especially not my bathroom preferences. I like to pretend that she’s sour and nothing like me.

2) Now that I'm fully immersed into Christmas music I’ve been paying close attention to the songs specifically. As we all know, there are really just a few dozen Christmas songs in general therefore making “listening to Christmas music” really just “listening to different versions of the same songs over and over”. That being said, there are several songs that I consider the “original”. For example, I think that Celine Dion’s Ave Maria is the 'original'. I also think that Bing Crosby’s White Christmas is the 'original'. Not that some “remakes” aren’t really good. Josh Groban singing anything Christmas related is amazing…. It’s just not the “real” thing.

What?!?! Celine Dion ruined another one? Sorry, but I dont' like her - I'd bet her Ave Maria is certainly not original... Again, sorry, but I have to be a pain in the ass on that one. As for other stuff to stop you from getting bored, how about the Christmas section of the Messiah, or the Corelli Christmas Concerto? :-)

I'm sorry the lady you don't like has the same stall preference - that would bug me, too...

1) I think this is absolutely hilarious because I have known that you prefer that bathroom for a while now… ever since you complained about the lock in the sales meeting in our first week here at the new building. And I’ve also known that she prefers that one too because when I’m in there and she comes in and goes to “your stall” and is making all that noise with her 15,000 seat cover things. Never thought about how much you guys were alike in your bathroom behavior. Haha

2) I don’t understand how you listen to christmas music THAT much! You listen to it in your car, here at work and probably with headphones on while your sleeping at night! You’ve got Christmas beaming out of your butt little lady… spread that cheer over my way!!

Hi Karen, umm...did megan just ask you to crap on her? ew. :)
I'm generally full of christmas cheer (to the point of being a christmas dictator, apparently) I'm a big fan of josh groban's christmas music, but there's nothing like michael crawford's o holy night. My favorite christmas song (besides stille nacht) is band-aid's feed the world (or as i like to call it, "feed the wurrrrrrld") hee, my favorite line? "there won't be snow in africa this christmas." Anyone else see the irony/stupidity in a song assuming africans are christian, unintelligent, and that the true sign of christmas is snow regardless of the season??? overall it makes me laugh. It also amused me going to africa and having THEM feed me....but then again, they also knew it was christmastime!

No crapping please... just some ole fashion christmas cheer!! the non-feces kind!

OK, i LOL'ed hard when i read kat's first line. what a riot.

i too paid special attention to the feed the world song and i too find it dumb for so many reasons.

i think my favorite "off" christmas song is the "auld lang syne" where the guy meets his old lover in a grocery store

oh, and that lady and i are nothing alike

I didn't realize you had a rumin to ruminate anything! I agree; I don't like to find any arch nemises haven't anything in common with me, either (and I also notice you have multiple revelations in the bathroom at work....this, the air freshener/crack snorting....)
I agree with Kathy on all her song choices. And Vicki..I don't think Celine Deion has ANY "original" Christmas Songs, esp NOT Ave Maria. I am thrilled as I play my Grampa's Christmas records regularly now. I LOVE IT! (still haven't found Pavarotti's Jingle Bells...)

I too must resound Viki's Celine comments. She is my least favorite singer, especially when it comes to Christmas music. I actually just made that comment to my mom in the car this weekend. I have to say you're right on the Bing Crosby. I also think that Nat King Cole's Christmas Song is "the origninal".

Just think Karen, your butt practically touches the same seat of your arch nemesis. If I were you'd I'd switch bathrooms.....

I am the only one who finds it odd that Karen has an arch-nemesis at work?

Martha said...

I sure don't. Arch-nemises can be found anywhere. (remember Karla? She was mine from grade school). Better to find one at work than at home!

Karen said...

now i'm thinking about my butt where her butt is. Thanks a lot lisa.

Oh, and this lady and i mutually dislike one another. She's literally one of the very few people in the world that i find very little to like about

I haven't heard Pavoratti do "Jingle Bells," but when he sings the English words to "Adeste Fidelis," it sounds really funny. He should probably work on his English diction as much as English-speakers work on their Italian diction.

My favorite Christmas song is Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride." Without the words. Just the instrumental. It really gets me in the Christmas mood.

And just after I post, I realized I misspelled Pavarotti...ugh...

Megs said...

That lady just about mutually dislikes every single person in this office!! I think you two top it off though!

Viki said...

I think if Karen dislikes someone that much, there must be something wrong with the person she dislikes...

Karen said...

thank you viki. :) I feel more justified now!

Mamma Sarah said...

LOL at Megan saying you have Christmas music coming out your butt... lol!

Someone dislikes Karen??? How could they???

I listen to Christmas music just as much as Karen. If it's not in the car it's here at home because of the digial music channels or the one radio station that plays it 27:7. Ahhh... the sounds of the season.

Dude,

Two things.

1. I play so much Christmas music that I leave it on for my dogs while I'm gone at work.

2. How is it that Karen gets so many freaking comments in her blog?!?!

Karen said...

I have lots of comments becuase i am a 1/3 of them!

2) I agree Celine Dion did not invent Ave Maria...

Side note, playing the NEW Charlie Brown shows right AFTER the old ones is a really bad idea!

Viki said...

Lisa, I think Karen's probably just lucky to be able to use the overabundance of comments on her blog as an excuse for not posting Thursday. :-)

Karen said...

hey, i was saving up for something good!

(the next time I miss a day or so posting don't think I'm saving up for something good like announcing being pregnant or anything!!!!)
