Auto Tatoos

On the way into work today I followed what looked to be a 15-year old Geo Metro covered in political bumper stickers. The problem with this is that I think he’s doing his candidate an injustice. When I look at that, though intrigued with the clever sayings, I critically think “if this guy is driving that car I do not want to do what he’s doing” including voting for that candidate. If this same guy was driving a Lexus I’d first think “why the hell isn’t this guy smart enough to not deface his car?” then I’d actually give his sticker’s message some critical thought and value.

This is why I wouldn’t put any UD paraphernalia on my Sentra. I didn’t want people to look see that piddily car and say “I'm not going to that school if this is all their alumni can afford to drive!”. I do however have a pretty license plate frame that proudly states my affiliation with the university on the Avalon.

Side note – I heard Champagne Supernova on 94.1 today and it made me smile.

I don't know if I agree. I do not necessarily associate the car with whether a college is good. For example, that could be a student that just graduated (and proud) and is looking for a job.

Too many bumper stickers is always a bad idea though.

ummm...being the parent of a now new driver AND the owner of our second geo metro (fun little things)I have to say...

1. the geo's are old and Cass plans to cover hers with cute stickers because its more fun than a new boring paint job (and a paint job may cost more than the car is worth).

2. geo's get like 40 mgp!

3. i could care less what people drive or what they put on their car - but if my car was paid off i am one of those people who would likely do something silly to it and i do plan to.

4. if nothing else that person gave you something to do at a stop light

:P

I used to think similarly as you. But then I moved to, let's face it, bumper sticker land. It's like lumpie-wan said - they put them all over the car to avoid painting it. I've seen a lot of good ones and a heck of a lot more stupid ones. To be honest, the "coexist" one is a little passe now - over done and too commonplace now. I like originality on them - ones that make me think.
My favorite one I've seen recently? "the truly educated never graduate" - because it made me think of Kathy. ;)

oh, by the way, I don't think I would EVER put a sticker on my car, though. That car cost me too much money to deface it like that - I like pretty things. :) (on the other hand, it DID cost a lot of money - why not "decorate" it the way you'd like?)

I think a UD sticker on the Sentra would've sent a good message - it was a very smart car choice, and therefore would have sent that kind of message about its driver and her alma mater. :-)

i want to run a correlation between political views (more liberal vs conservative than democrat vs republican) and bumper stickers. I suspect that the more stickers you have above and (beyond maybe 2 or 3 "standard" patriotic/support for war/breast cancer) suggests more liberal. but i can't determine that unless i know the opinions of those people with zero stickers...

also. when i was in an sci grad school they joked of publishing a brochure of the grad students cars to lure new students...there was the new F150 extended cab, the pimped out yukon, the mustang, the pontiac GT...one of the students now just bought a corvette...you get the idea.

i hate to see nice cars with bumper stickers. i immediatly think "stupid owner." i would love magnetic bumper stickers though (would require metal bumpers, probably why they don't exist or aren't common...) so that i could portray my opinions but able to change/remove on a whim...i am entertained by them though. my fave is probably "fermez le bush"

I have a UD sticker on the back window of my car and a license plate holder that says UD Alumni. I had it one my last car too.

I had them on my last car too. I never even thought that people would judge my school for by my car.....

I guess that my current car says, "UD must be expensive or she got a really good degree because that b*tch takes a lot of gas!" HA!
