Decorating Blues

UGH. I clearly have bad taste because the things I am looking for DO NOT EXIST. Not in stores, not online, not anywhere.

I decided that I’d like a dinosaur-themed nursery for the baby. You’d think dinosaurs would be pretty popular given the gender but nooooooo… no one makes sets that aren’t discontinued, “gentle” (aka not fierce) dinosaur wall art is impossible to locate, and to find any bedding is making me pull my hair out. I went to a fabric store willing and able to make my own bumper pads but even they don’t carry any dinosaur material.

A smarter woman would give up and pick a more common theme like trucks.

If this kid was 8 or something, and not terrified of the beasts, I would think this was pretty cool (it’s a wallpaper stick-up):

Kendall wants to know if you're still going with the name Christopher.

And you're right, that would look scary on a baby's wall. LOL!

My 6 year old son would love that, but my 8 year old would never sleep in his room again! All my 4 year old son had to say about that was "scary" and then came back to ask "you wouldn't really do that to me are you mommy"?

Yea, Amy's 4 yr old is the king of one-liners.

It probably is hard to find gentle dinosaurs - think about it. I bet, however, that if you keep pushing thru and maybe looking and non-conventional places (not sure where, though, to recommend), you can find it. Recently on cakewrecks there was a day devoted to non-wrecky, CUTE baby dragons...

Speaking to your tastes, however, when you do find what you're looking for, you'll be that much happier and excited about it. Plus, I've noticed when I'm searching for things and can't find it anywhere - they usually show up about 6 months to a year later. I like to think of myself, therefore, as a trendsetter. Perhaps the same it true for you - you don't SUCK at decorating, rather you're a trendsetter. :D
Good luck in the meanwhile, though...the pregnancy thing means you're running against a deadline...

What about searching for something similar to the movie "The Land Before Time"? Those are friendly dinos.

Good call Jenna. I was thinking the same thing just now. :)

I thought that Babies R Us had a cute friendly dino theme at one point. Try ebay for dino material. Where did you go and look?

I would have loved that dinosaur in my bedroom as a kid!

I just did a quick search on etsy.com and ebay for dinosaur...both places had lots of kids items with cute dinosaurs. Not exactly a 'set', but I saw blankets, lamps, decorations...you just might have to mix and match. Good luck!

That's cracking me up when I look back at this photo.
I think it would give ME nightmares!! (no joke, I got nightmares from Pineapple Express. Yea. I'm that lame.)

Another option? Do you know any highly creative and skilled people? They could paint murals for you. And, truthfully, with a projector, you could stencil your own art and paint it yourself.

ebay was my best source so far - they have a discontinued theme, lil dino, that i liked. I don't need most of the stuff in the bedding sets (as the kid's not allowed to have a comforter anyway) but i'd be willing to get it. I dont' really care for the matching wall art though.....

I did a search for the material on Saturday (sarah's suggestion) and went to two fabric stores - no dice. :(

can you find your own picture of a dinosaur - possibly from the land before time or whatever - and then get it made into wall art at a kinkos store?

heck... just ask carol!! i'm sure she'd have a solution!

Sounds like we may need to take a trip to the Fabric Shack in Waynesville or even the Stitching Post in Centerville. I'm sure they'd have what you're looking for.
