Like Mom, I Want To Be Like Mom

The other thing I liked about Spanglish is towards the end when the mother asks her daughter pointedly “Would it be such a bad thing to turn out like me?” This made me cry because of all the people in the world, turning out like my mother would be a blessing to the world. She’s a pretty awesome mom and person all the way around.

Time for the “awwww”’s…

My mom is an awesome lady - it wouldn't be such a bad thing to turn out like her...with a few modifications (i.e. I'm fighting my genes because I don't want to turn out short and stout, and I don't want 4 kids!)

I have to agree with modifications, especially in my case. Both of my parents are trapped in a previous generation as far as viewpoints and general social issues. These things I most certainly do NOT want.

While there are things I take from my parents, I have to say that I veiw raising my own children at some point in a very different way than they did bringing me up. I personally think it would be a tragedy for my kids to be raised the way that I was.

I did not get along with mom too well growing up, but as I get older I realize...that is because I am so much like her in a lot of ways!

I don't think I will ever be like my mom, I see myself turning into my dad more and more everyday....

To be either would be a blessing for the world!

Luckily, I had a nice blend from the parents - Mom taught me the Golden Rule and related matters (if I ever said that I "hated" someone or something, I would get slapped), while Dad taught me about being competitive and how to handle money.

I will try to pass such traits on as well. For example, I intend for my 4 year old to be fluent in Generally Accepted Accounting Practices and be able to identify inconsistencies in a stock trend chart.
Oh, and he should be nice to other people too.

Lol Amen to Jim's comment! You know your GAAP rules and stock trends, you are set for life. And don't forget all the important issues dealing w/ bonds!

Oh yeah, and that part about being a good kid is important too...

My mom is my hero... and I even wrote a paper about it my freshman year for my English 101 class. She was completely floored (I didn't tell her I was doing it) and cried when she finally read it. I hope that my children will be able to do the same thing one day.
